Cancer rehabilitation is an essential component of cancer care.
Treatments for cancer commonly cause side effects which can lead to significant
impairments and can impact your life both physically and psychologically.
Common side effects are:
Pain
Fatigue
Weakness and de-conditioning
Lymphoedema
Peripheral neuropathy
Loss of movement and mobility
Scar tissue
Poor sleep patterns
Decreased cognitive capacity
Reduced fitness levels
Decreased body confidence
These side effects may have a negative impact in a persons ability to participate in
activities of daily living and exercise.
There is significant research to support the
importance of exercise following a cancer diagnosis.
Exercise may help reduce the risk of cancer recurrence by up to 35%.
Exercise after a cancer diagnosis is associated with
a decrease in cancer related death by up to 44%.
Exercise has been proven to be effective in decreasing side effects of cancer treatment.
150 mins a week of moderate physical activity plus
